ARTIST INFORMATION FOR HOLIDAY CARD PROGRAM
For the past 22 years the Women’s Board of the American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division, has produced original Holiday Cards that are sold to corporations and individuals in Philadelphia, the suburbs and across the country. Each year we choose an artist who paints four original local scenes suitable for our Holiday Cards. The artist donates the rights for us to reproduce these onto the cards with a one-time only printing. We pay for the printing of the cards and the brochures. If the artist wants to have prints made of the paintings, then he or she pays for them and the Women’s Board helps market them with 40% of proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and 60% going to the artist if we receive the order. Of course the artist may sell the prints to galleries or to individuals without a percentage going to the American Cancer Society.
If you are interested in being considered for the 2010 Holiday Card Program, please submit four or more sample paintings of Philadelphia scenes in the card format (5” x 7”.) When sending the samples, some artists paint a larger scene, then scale copies down to the required size and send both the original and the copies. These samples are due by March 15, 2010. A decision will be made immediately, and if you are chosen we will ask for the finished paintings by May 15, 2010. After they are approved by the committee, the cards will go to print for the 2010 Holiday Cards.
We request that all the scenes must have a winter theme, but not depict any one holiday. For example, scenes with snow and a wreath on a door would be acceptable. Each year we feature Boathouse Row, two skylines and another scene. This year we are featuring four scenes: Independence hall, Boathouses, Art Museum, and Philadelphia Skyline.
